With a little bit of curiosity and avid exploring, a multitude of eateries and hotspots can be found right here in Edmonton, Alberta. Ever since I started working downtown, I’ve been exposed to a ton more local places to eat, and I’ve been impressed by what I have found. Today, I’m talking about four of my favourites!

Art of Cake

Vintage tables and chairs litter the space called Art of Cake which makes for an unforgettable (and delicious) experience. If you’re a fan of desserts, than this is definitely the place for you.

The bakery/eatery offers a multitude of different artisan cakes, cookies, confections and more on a daily basis that are sure to delight your tastebuds and have you wanting more. They also serve up a yummy lunch special (the spinach quiche truly does melt in your mouth) that you can finish off with a rich latte or cappuccino made from their state-of-the-art coffee machine.

Art of Cake provides a unique and nostalgic dining experience, and you’ll probably find yourself getting up from your table more than once to look around at the array of vintage furniture and trinkets sprinkled everywhere.

The Colombian Mountain Coffee

When I heard that there was going to be a coffee shop opening up in Edmonton serving up Colombian coffee I was super excited. Having visited Colombia before, and tasted the coffee there years ago, I knew it was quickly going to transform into a popular, go-to spot in the city.

Enter the doors of The Colombian and you will be greeted with grey walls and wood tables, all contributing to a minimalist and modern vibe. All of the coffee is roasted right at the back of the shop through a massive roaster, which I’ve only seen the likes of in places overseas. All of the beans in the coffee you’ll taste here are sourced from the owner’s family farm back in Colombia, and other select farms and co-ops around the world.

If you’re a coffee lover, you really can’t miss out on this place. Expertly smooth, any form of coffee you order from here will glide over your tongue with ease and encourage you to have a second cup.

What To Eat/Drink

  • Cappuccino
  • Nutella toast (chocolate lovers unite!)

Wilfred’s

One of the newest hotspots to hit the Brewery District, stepping into Wilfred’s feels like stepping into a different time and world all together. This diner and cafe has become a serious favourite for me, and when it first opened I was frequenting it at least once a week.

First, I just have to talk about how beautiful the interior of this space is. From the custom mural on the diner’s back wall to hints of pink and white throughout the decor, you can’t help but feel happy as you step through the threshold. The menus appear in the form of a newspaper making you feel like you are part of the town depicted in the stunning mural. Since I’m in marketing, I also have to point out that their website and Instagram are completely on point as well.

The staff is always lovely, and the food is always fresh and delicious. Whether you’re in the mood for a crafted coffee, unique salad or tasty dessert, you can find it at Wilfred’s. They also offer an extensive drink menu which I highly encourage testing out! All of the cocktails are extremely unique, all with their own twist.

What To Eat/Drink

  • Casear or kale salad (the salad bowls come heaping full with house-made vinaigrettes)
  • Leva ice cream bowl (this comes with three flavours: chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon)
  • Bicycle race (a cocktail!)
  • Iced vanilla coffee

BRU Coffee + Beer House

Bru is definitely a unique spot since is focuses on serving up both delicious coffee and delicious beer. Again, this is a place where the interior never fails to impress me with rustic grey wood and dark walls that come together to create the overall moody atmosphere.

The coolest part about this place is you can really order anything you’re craving whether that be coffee or a martini. It presents a unique experience as your coffee will be served in a glass rather than a mug! And, the music that plays here is usually awesome.

What To Eat/Drink

  • Brown butter glazed popcorn
  • Fruity red wine sangria
  • Vanilla lattee
